Angel Delight

Dir Kong Yeung / 1992 / Hong Kong

Yu Enterprises had this Refused Registration on 15th May 1992. The running time of the 35mm print was 91min. On June 12th 1992 a censored 86min print was passed with an R18+(High Level Sex Scenes) rating. The applicant was again Yu Enterprises, who were also now joined by VN International Video.

In the OFLC and Film and Literature Board of Review-Report on Activities 1991-92, the reason for the ban was explained.

"Angel Delight, a film set in a Hong Kong brothel during the 1930's, contained a detailed and exploitative depiction of a female prostitute being forced to participate in sexual activity with a male client. Throughout this activity the woman struggles, protests vigorously and tries to escape"

The Hong Kong VCD released by Wing Artist Entertainment runs 89m 29s. The scene that the censors had a problem with takes place at 60m, and lasts till around 64m. It involves the Brothel Madam urging one of the girls to service Master Ma, even though she is feeling sick. Presumably the complete scene was removed in order to gain the R18+ rating.
