Eyes of a Stranger

Dir Ken Wiederhorn / 1981 / USA

Warner Brothers had a 2312.5mtr (84m 31s) print Refused Registration in February 1981. The reason given was:
Violence
Frequency: Infrequent
Explicitness/Intensity: High
Purpose: Gratuitous

An appeal to the Review Board saw the ban overturned, and an R awarded in February 1981. A theatrical release followed.

Warner Brothers issued the film on video in 1982. In February 1984 it became law for all video tapes to be classified. The censors began the slow task of reviewing all the titles that had been released up until that time. They finally got to the EYES OF A STRANGER in January 1985. The R rating was confirmed for the 81m tape, though it was now awarded for:
Violence
Frequency: Frequent
Explicitness/Intensity: Medium
Purpose: Justified

This tape is now quite collectable. According to the IMDb it contains around 30sec of footage removed from the U.S. R-Rated version.
