Dir Brad Armstrong / Prod Wicked Pictures / 2001 / USA / IMDb In April 2001 Adultshop.com had this title banned, a revised version was passed in September. The cuts must have been very minimal as both the RC and X18+ prints have the same 97min (v) running time.
PENETRATING THE EAST # 4 - PICKIN' UP THE CZECH Prod Wicked Pictures / USA The OFLC gave an 80min (v) tape an RC rating in April 2000. The AXIS Group cut it to 78min and received an X18+ in June.
PHOENIX RISING Dir Chi Chi Larue / Prod Jocks Video Productions / 1999 / USA / IMDb A 90min (v) print was originally banned in January 2000. The AXIS Group finally received an X18+ in June after the removal of 8mins.
PHOTO CLUB Dir Paul Thomas / Prod Vivid / 2003 / USA / IMDb This title was one part of 229min triple-bill VHS that Gallery Entertainment had rated RC in March 2005. The two other titles on the tape were AFRICA RISING and PHOTOPLAY. It looks like this was the problem title that saw the tape Refused Classification. Both AFRICA RISING and PHOTOPLAY had previously been rated X18+ in the late 90's, and were again passed in June 2005 when submitted as single titles. PHOTO CLUB had never previously been rated by the OFLC, and the synopsis indicates some problem content. Unlike the other two, when it was resubmitted as a single title, it was again given an RC. This rating was awarded to a revised 84min VHS in June 2005. Synopsis
Dir Layne Parker / Prod Wave / 1995 Las Vegas Video had a 74min VHS passed X18+ in February 1997. Gallery Entertainment had triple-bill VHS containing this title, as well as PHOTO CLUB and AFRICA RISING rated RC in March 2005. It looks like PHOTO CLUB was the title that caused the triple-bill tape to be Refused Classification. PHOTO PLAY was eventually resubmitted on its own. This revised 77min VHS was passed X18+ in June 2005.
Dir Guillermo Brown / Prod Paul Thomas / USA In June 2001 Gallery Entertainment had an 85min VHS of this rated RC. This Vivid Entertainment Production was eventually passed the following month with an X18+ in an 84min revised version.
Dir Joone / 2005 / USA / IMDb Gallery Entertainment had this big-budget porn movie passed on March 20th 2006. A second disc titled PIRATES BONUS FEATURES was passed on March 31st. Both were listed as being the 'Original Version' and were given X18+ (Explicit Sex) ratings. On September 5th 2006 PIRATES COLLECTORS EDITION (3 DISC SET) was awarded an RC rating. The applicant was the ACT Office of Fair Trading, the body that monitors compliance with the X18+ regulations in that Territory. The version that was banned sounds like an imported disc that was illegally made available for sale in the ACT. This would seem to indicate that the so-called 'Original Version' passed as X18+ may have been pre-cut before submission. Since the tightening of the guidelines in 2000 it has been very difficult to include any scenes of violence in the X18+ rating. The film DREAMQUEST was banned in 2000. At the time one of the reasons was due to a brief moment of violence. The scene was not sexual, but was a necessary part of the plot. It was described as follows: 3. 1O3mins - Feet are seen walking in the darkened corridors of the dungeon cells as a male walks up to a. guard and implicitly hits him on the head from, behind, rendering him unconscious. He takes the guard's keys and goes in to rescue Sarah. In the Board's unanimous opinion the hit on the head constitutes an act of violence which is not permissible in a film containing consensual sexually explicit activity and thus warrants an "RC" classification. Which brings us back to PIRATES. In her review of the film in the Eros Magazine Vol.7 No3 Yasmin Element claims that the OFLC are now much more liberal when it comes to non-sexual violence in the X18+ category. If this is true then it is a welcome change. A word of warning, despite the film being passed in an 'Original Version', this does not mean that it was not pre-cut before submission. It needs to be confirmed if PIRATES is indeed uncut in Australia. PIRATES Review For a film to be rated X by the Office of Film and Literature Classification in Australia it cannot contain any violence – even if the violence is separate from the actual sex scenes, as is the case with Pirates. But miracle of miracles, the OFLC allowed Pirates to be classified as X rated for Australian audiences on 20th March 2006 for Gallery Entertainment. So are we led to believe that the OFLC is starting to take artistic merit into account when classifying adult films like they do when looking at mainstream films with sexually explicit content like 9 Songs? Are they just as dazzled with the production value of Pirates as the rest of us, recognising what a monumental step towards the eminent merging of the adult and mainstream entertainment industries it is? I’d like to think that this is the case and that the double standard that exists between adult and mainstream cinema classification is nearly over. Congratulations to the OFLC for finally recognising dramatic development outside of the sex within adult film. Gallery Entertainment had heavily censored DVD passed as R18+(Mainly Concerned With Sex) on September 22nd 2006.
Prod All Blew Shirts / 2000 / USA / IMDb Adultshop.com had this banned in February 2001, a revised version was passed the following month. The cuts must have been very minimal as both the RC and X18+ prints have 127min (v) running times.
Prod Evil Angel / 2001 / USA / IMDb In March 2002, Adultshop.com had a 127min (v) rated X. This is listed as a revised version, though it does not seem to have been previously seen by the OFLC.

20th 2000. On December 14th 2006 the NT Police in Darwin were awarded an RC

Dir Cleo Edwards / 2000 / USA / IMDb In May 2001, a 76min VHS of this Vivid Entertainment production received an RC rating. The following month Gallery Entertainment reduced the runtime to 70mins to gain a X18+.
PRINCESSE ET LA PUTE, LA Dir Marc Dorcel / 1996 / France / IMDb This was first passed with an X18+ in a 140min (v) version back in October 1997. PRIVATE BLACK LABEL 29: PRIVATE CAFE Dir Sebastiano Brogi / Prod Fraserside Holdings Ltd / 2003 / Sweden / IMDb In January 2003, Calvista Australia received an RC rating for a 91min VHS. I'm not sure where the extra 40mins came from, but a revised 131min tape was passed in April.

aka Private Gold 54 Dir Antonio Adamo / 2002 / Hungary / IMDb In May 2002 Calvista had this title rated X18+ with a runtime of 100mins. The following month an R18+ version was passed running only 13mins! Thanks to Chuck Chaos for the following explanation as to what is going on here. "This was created as a sort of TEASER or extended trailer, this then was given away in Adult shops for free with the sale of other PRIVATE video lines. This was all done as Gladiator was the first Adult film made with a budget of over 1 million dollars, so you can imagine the amounts they would have to sell to recover and break even. The publicity blitz on this film was unheard of back in I believe 2002 when released. Calvista hired big screens for many Adult Stores (larger ones) and they played this 13 min tape on a continuous loop as the viewing of an X Rated version in a porn shop would be illegal as only R rated can "Technically" be shown (even though we know it doesn't always work that way.) This in all honesty is an extended trailer and a making of tape, but is still titled "The Gladiator" with no mention in the title to it being otherwise. " Between these decisions a 117min print described as THE EXTENDED VERSION was Refused Classification. In July this was re-edited and passed with an X18+ rating, the runtime remained at 117minutes. PRIVATE REALITY 6: DANGEROUS GAMES contains a "MAKING OF" feature for this movie.

The running time was reduced to 85min (v) and it was given an X18+ A DVD version was submitted by AdultShop.com in July 2002, but was again banned. The reason given was: “The film contains
depictions of explicit sexual activity and depictions of violence that
cannot be accommodated in the X classification. 36 minutes. A woman behind
a bar points a gun at a man’s head and the deputy sheriff leads him away
with a rifle held to his back. 87 minutes. A woman holds
a gun to a man’s head, instructs him to go outside, strip off and leave
with the other stripped men on their horses. Other women stand around with
guns pointed at the men. Adultshop.com decided not to edit the film, so it has
never been resubmitted.
