The terms ‘Refused Registration’, ‘Refused Classification’ and ‘Banned’ are used interchangeably.
Some titles may currently only have a Censorship Timeline entry.
Film Censorship Database No. 1
November 1971 to Present
An A to Z listing of movies banned or censored in Australia after the introduction of the R-rating on 15 November 1971.
Includes controversial titles and those that were borderline Refused Classification.
After 1 February 1984, hardcore pornographic titles can be found in the Adult Film Censorship Database.
Film Censorship Database No. 2
January 1960 to November 1971
An A to Z listing of movies banned or censored in Australia before the introduction of the R-rating on 15 November 1971.
Currently, it is most comprehensive in the period beginning in May 1970. It was then that the Film Censorship Board began to release information about the titles they had classified.
Titles before May 1970 are gradually being included.
Adult Film Censorship Database (to be added)
February 1984 to Present
An A to Z listing of hardcore pornographic movies banned or censored in Australia since the introduction of the X-rating on 1 February 1984. Before this date, they can be found in Film Censorship Database No. 1.
Currently, it includes titles that had censorship problems from 2000 until the present.
Titles from 1984 to 1999 are gradually being included.

Game Censorship Database
April 1994 to Present
An A to Z listing of every computer game and video game banned or censored in Australia since the introduction of compulsory classification on 11 April 1994.
Includes controversial titles and those that were borderline Refused Classification.
Since March 2015, games have also been classified under the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) system. These can be viewed in our Game IARC Censorship Timeline.
Publication Censorship Database
February 1984 to Present
An A to Z listing of books, magazines and other printed matter banned or censored in Australia since 1 February 1984. It was on this date that selected publications were required to be classified.
Currently, it includes titles that had censorship problems from 2006 until the present.
Titles from 1984 to 2005 are gradually being added.
